Sky Valley Ecological Reserve Updated:06/2019

The Sky Valley Ecological Reserve is an approximately 1,700 acre property that connects Joshua Tree National Park and the Coachella Valley Ecological Reserve. Species using this wildlife corridor include the desert bighorn sheep, bobcat, kit fox and coyote. The elevation gradient between these constitutes one of the few remaining areas in the valley where an unimpeded elevation transect exists. As climate changes over time, the availability of this area may be vital for species to adjust to climate-induced shifts in habitat.

The property was acquired to provide the wildlife corridor, but also provides habitat for desert tortoise and is an essential sand transport area for the Coachella Valley Ecological Reserve. It was designated as an ecological reserve by the Fish and Game Commission in 2007.
