Jessica Stauffer Updated:06/2013

Jessica is a Humboldt County native of Yurok and Karuk descent. Growing up along the Klamath River in Orleans, California, Jessica developed a deep appreciation and respect for the natural world. Her interest in ecology has led her to focus her endeavors, both personal and professional, on understanding natural systems and responsible management. Jessica received her formal education in the field of wildlife biology at Humboldt State University and has been with Mad River Biologists since 1998. She assists in all aspects of project planning including survey design and implementation for a variety of management, restoration, research, inventory and monitoring projects throughout the region. This includes conducting surveys for sensitive wildlife species and working extensively with agency personnel to assist clients in addressing impacts to wildlife for the development of CEQA and NEPA documentation. Jessica performs the majority of MRB's mapping tasks including aerial photograph interpretation and GIS operations. In addition, she manages the wildlife program for the Yurok Tribe, one of MRB's long-term clients, including the coordination and implementation of a monitoring scheme to document wildlife use on Tribal lands and survey for ESA species, preparation of Biological Assessments and assisting in the development of a Forest Management Plan. Applying both her knowledge of biology and a passion for the land, Jessica works to support well-informed, sustainable management of northwestern California's diverse landscapes.

In addition to her work at MRB, Jessica volunteers for both the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center and Northcoast Marine Mammal Center and is trained in the supervision of convergent volunteers for rehabilitation of oil affected wildlife associated with a spill event. She is also a member of the Wildlife Society (TWS), the American Ornithologists Union (AOU) and the California Indian Basketweavers Association (CIBA).
