CCS maintains the largest and most experienced permanent staff in the field. Our professional team includes executive consultants and resident campaign directors, as well as research, communication, planned giving, and campaign support personnel.

CCS campaigns generally cost institutions between three and eight cents per dollar raised including professional fees and operational expenses.

Ninety percent of CCS work represents repeat institutions or direct referrals. We take this as the highest compliment.

Frederic J. “Rick” Happy is a Principal & Managing Director of CCS.  He joined the firm in 1986, and has direct responsibility for operations in the western United States and Canada. Rick has provided professional counsel to numerous educational, healthcare, civic, environmental, and religious institutions, directing over 100 capital campaigns, which have raised a combined total exceeding $1 billion.

Rick led the team during Lions Clubs International’s original Campaign SightFirst, which netted in excess of $150 million. He was the director of the first-ever diocesan fundraising campaign in the United Kingdom and was responsible for CCS’s work at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).  He directed CCS’s first-ever foray into the City University of New York by leading CCS’s work with Baruch College and working closely with then-President (and subsequent Chancellor) Matthew Goldstein.

Since 1998, Rick has led CCS’s work in the West, starting with a handful of clients and professional staff and building a team of more than 35 executives and directors with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.  As a leader in philanthropy, Rick has served on the Board of the Giving Institute and has spoken at numerous conferences.

Rick’s extensive experience includes capital campaign consulting and management; endowment fundraising; feasibility and planning design and implementation; telemarketing; public relations; foundation and corporate giving; major gift solicitation; and pledge redemption.
