California Oaks Updated:12/2021

California Oaks is a project of the California Wildlife Foundation focused on protecting the state's oak forest and woodland ecosystems. Oaks, culturally-important trees, contribute to air quality, climate stability, clean water supply, and provide plant and wildlife habitat—including habitat for many endangered, threatened, and candidate species. Protecting and perpetuating California's oak habitat is vital to maintaining the state's biodiversity, watersheds, and climate, as well as the health and well-being of all Californians.

California Oaks builds partnerships through the California Oaks Coalition, which brings together national, state, regional, and local organizations to conserve and perpetuate the state's primary old growth resource. California Oaks coordinates oak protection efforts, educates the public and policy makers, and publishes materials on the opportunities for and benefits of protecting oak woodlands and oak-forested lands.
