McGinty Mountain Ecological Reserve Updated:06/2019

McGinty Mountain Ecological Reserve is a 411-acre property. The terrain is rocky and the vegetation types include coastal sage scrub and chaparral restricted to gabbro-derived soils. It is estimated that non-game bird and small mammal use is high. Migratory songbirds use the site in moderately large numbers.

The property has a history of mining activities and moderate ORV and equestrian use, yet despite this it is in good condition. It was purchased to maintain and protect rare plant populations and the unique form of coastal sage scrub and chaparral vegetation present, and was designated as an ecological reserve by the Fish and Game Commission in 1993.
